This is one of those games where you look at the stats and you can’t understand the outcome. Oregon State had 15 more 1st downs; led in passing yards, 348-to-69; and total yards, 562-to-422; they converted their 3rd downs 75% of the time; and had possession of the ball for 8 more minutes than the Wolfpack. But after having a 24-14 lead early in the 3rd Qtr, back-to-back-to-back TD’s by Nevada off of back-to-back interceptions, one a pick six, would put the Wolfpack up 35-24 with almost 11 minutes left in the 4th Qtr. The Beavers would come back with a TD on an 11 play 75 yard four minute drive to get within five points, 35-30, after a missed 2-point conversion. But this game had gone back and forth from the start and the end would be no different as both sides would score another TD to make it 42-37 Nevada and Gevani McCoy, the Oregon State Junior QB, would get intercepted for his fourth time in the game during the Beavers last ditch unsuccessful drive with less than a minute left to come out on top.
For Oregon State, McCoy connected on 27-of-42 and at least five times to four different receivers for 348 yards, 1 TD to Junior WR Trent Walker, and 4 interceptions. On the ground the Beavers rushed 43 times for 214 yards and 4 TD’s with Junior RB Anthony Hankerson having a career game rushing 28 times for 154 yards and 3 of Oregon State’s 4 TD’s on the ground with Sophomore RB Jake Reichle picking up the other. The Nevada passing attack was pretty non-existent with their starting QB Junior Brendon Lewis completing just 5 passes for 51 yards with nothing to show for it but did rush 9 times for 151 yards and 1 TD. But with the help of Oregon State’s lack of run defense it was Junior RB Savion Red that tore it up on the ground and on the scoreboard rushing 23 times for 137 yards and 4 TD’s! Between Lewis and Red they collectively rushed 32 times for 288 of the team’s 353 total rushing yards. The Beavers head back to Corvallis to take on UNLV next.
