2023 PAC-12 Week-5 Oregon at Stanford

Surprisingly Stanford actually led this one 3-0 at the end of the 1st Qtr on the first of back-to-back field goals that put them up 6-0 right at the beginning of the second. But after holding the Ducks to their second three-and-out the Quack came back and scored on six of their next seven possessions in the game—all of them TD’s—while holding the Cardinal scoreless to win the road blowout 42-0. Bo Nix was his usual surgical self connecting on over 80% of his throws for 290 yards, 4 TD’s, and no interceptions. On the ground Oregon rushed 28 times for 208 yards with RB’s Jordan James and Bucky Irving both picking up 88 yards and a TD each.

With five Oregon sacks and eleven tackles for loss Stanford starting QB, Sophomore Justin Lamson, connected on just over 50% of his passes for 106 yards and although did not throw a pick never connected in the end zone either.  The other Cardinal QB, Sophomore Ashton Daniels, came in for a few plays early, connected on 3-of-4 for 27 yards, but after a couple of sacks and a very hard hit left the game and never returned. On the ground Stanford rushed 46 times for 89 yards with Lamson picking up a third of those himself on 22 attempts.

Oregon out-paced the Cardinals in 1st downs, 26-16; passing yards 298-133; rushing yards, 208-89; and had the ball in their control for ten more minutes than their opponent. As the AP described in, THE TAKEAWAY, for ESPN; “Once the Ducks got going, Stanford couldn’t slow them down. Oregon had three plays for 6 yards in the first quarter and didn’t gain its initial first down for more than 20 minutes of game action. The Ducks then ran 48 plays for 471 yards with six TDs on their next seven drives to take control.”  Regarding Stanford: “Taylor’s first season on The Farm is off to a rough start as the Cardinal have lost four straight since an opening win at Hawaii [and] 17 of 18 conference games.”  Next up for Oregon is a trip to Alaska Airlines Husky Stadium on Saturday, October 14th while the Cardinal also hit the road to take on Colorado the day before.
