2023 PAC-12 Week-3 Northern Colorado at Washington State

Cougar QB, Cameron Ward, who currently ranks 6th nationally in yards had a field day in this one completing over 75% of his throws for 327 yards, 4 TD’s, and no interceptions. Combined with their two back-ups, John Mateer and Emmett Brown, Washington State threw for 489 yards, 6 TD’s, and 1 interception with Ward throwing in a rushing TD for good measure to blowout the Northern Colorado Bears 64-to-21. On the ground the Cougars rushed 36 times for 229 yards and 3 TD’s with five players handling the ball three or more times and RB’s Sophomore Dylan Paine and Senior Nakia Watson picking up the other two scores on the ground. The Cougar QB’s connected with seven different players multiple times with WR’s Senior Lincoln Victor, Juniors Josh Kelly and Kyle Williams, and Sophomores Tsion Nunnally and Josh Meredith combining for 350 of those receiving yards as well as at least one TD each.

Northern Colorado picked up two TD’s in the air with QB Jacob Simon connecting on 16-of-24 for 171 yards of the 208 yard total and no interceptions. On the ground Junior RB David Afari rushed 17 times for 116 of the team’s 158 yard total with backup QB Hank Gibbs picking up their only rushing TD. Washington State never trailed in this one leading 22-0 after one, 43-7 at the half, 57-14 after three and a TD each in the 4th. The Cougars had more than twice the number of 1st Downs compared to the Bears at 33-to-16, almost twice the total yardage at 718-to-366, converted 80% of the time on 3rd down as well as the only time they went for it on 4th down. In what will be a lot tougher match-up this coming Saturday the Cougars play host to Oregon State and will probably need to win that one to stay in the Top-25.
