There are five teams in the PAC-12 that are already bowl eligible with the Huskies being one of those after scoring back-to-back-to-back touchdowns to start the 2nd half, including a two point conversion to go out in front 14-7 with 4:48 left in the 3rd Qtr; again early in the 4th Qtr to break a 14-14 tie and go up 21-14; and then one more time with 10:19 left in the 4th Qtr to go up 28-14 which was enough for a 28-21 win with the defense holding off the Bears after they closed to within seven with a little over six minutes left in the game.
Husky QB Michael Penix-Jr connected on 70% of his passes for 374 yards and 2 TD’s and is now averaging 366 yards per game this season—tops in the nation. Sophomore WR Jalen McMillan collected 8 of those passes for 81 yards and 1 TD while Junior RB Richard Newton hauled in the other one. On the ground Washington rushed 32 times for 102 yards and 1 TD by Sophomore RB Cameron Davis. For Cal, Senior QB Jack Plummer was 21-of-34 for 245 yards and 3 TD’s–all after the break and going scoreless in the first half–while the Bears running game languished collecting just 61 yards on 31 attempts. Plummer did a good job hanging on to the ball as the Huskies recorded 63 tackles, 5 sacks, and 9 tackles for loss which probably played a great deal into that rushing total for Cal.
Washington will have to put more points on the board next week as they’ll be hosting Oregon State while Cal plays host to an even more dangerous opponent and the Beaver’s in-state rival—Oregon.
