2022 PAC-12 Week-2 Colorado at Air Force

The Air Force was a 17.5 point favorite at home but ended up running away with it in a 31 point 41-10 victory over Colorado. Judging from the 20-10 half-time score alone it looked as though the Buffaloes still had a chance, especially since they got possession of the ball after the break. But looking at the box score they put up zeroes in three of the four quarters, including the 3rd where they had a chance to cut the Falcon’s lead to three points but fumbled the ball right at the goal line

They might have been able to do some damage in the air, but the weather was so bad that both teams combined only threw for a total of 59 yards the entire game. The conditions really exposed Colorado’s lack of even a mediocre run defense as the Air Force scorched the Buffaloes on the ground, rushing 70 times for 435 yards (6+ yards per carry) with Senior Falcon RB Brad Roberts picking up 174 of those and 3 of their 5 rushing TD’s.

The Air Force led in 1st Downs, 25-8; Total Yards, 443 to 162; and had possession of the ball 17 minutes longer than Colorado. Due to the rain both teams sruggled at hanging onto the ball with the Buffaloes fumbling twice and the Falcons loosing it an incredible five times, turning it over on three of those to a Colorado team that couldn’t capitalize. After the game Colorado Head Coach Karl Dorrell offered the same type of commentary that he’s been providing for quite a while now when he said; “Today was a disappointing performance. We didn’t play well. We didn’t play to our capabilities. We’ve got to continue this work and develop this football team. It’s unfortunate, though, that we had a performance like that.” Thanks Karl, that comment and the performance of your team has you at the top of my Coaches Dead Pool List for this year. I suspect we’ll be seeing someone else in charge next year if not sooner. Colorado’s next loss is scheduled to be next week on the road in Minnesota.
